French horn is an instrument with a unique sound and a rich history. Its sound can move the hearts of listeners and transport them to the world of beauty and emotions. For many musicians playing this instrument, the French horn poses a real technical and artistic challenge. That is why it is so important to regularly improve your skills by participating in master classes, where you can gain valuable tips from experienced educators.

Soon, the next edition of the prestigious French Horn Master Class will take place, to which we invite all French horn enthusiasts. This year’s edition will be held from July 7th to 12th, traditionally at the Music Academy in Łódź.

During the course, we will have the opportunity to work with the best educators in the field of French horn. Dariusz Mikulski, Pater Arnold, Tomasz Bińkowski, Monika Paprocka-Całus, and David Bagoly are masters in their profession who share their extraordinary skills and experience with the course participants. This is a unique opportunity to develop your skills under the guidance of true experts.

In addition to individual and group classes, the course will also include lectures, presentations, and concerts that will expand musical knowledge and experience the beauty of French horn sound performed by masters. Joanna Kowalewska, an experienced pianist who collaborates with French horn players at the Music Academy in Łódź, will accompany the participants during the course.

The course topics include many technical issues such as breathing techniques, lip care, lip trills, double and triple staccato, and legato techniques. We will also work on the appropriate repertoire and preparation for orchestra auditions, which will help improve your musical and artistic skills.

1. The organizer of the Horn Masterclass Course, hereinafter referred to as HMC 2024, is the Wind Instruments Department of the G. and K. Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź, hereinafter referred to as the Academy, and the “MikulskiART” Foundation, hereinafter referred to as the Foundation. The organizational and substantive director is Prof. Dr hab. Dariusz Mikulski.

2.The Horn Masterclass Course is organized in the horn specialty.

3.Participants who have not reached the age of 18 may participate in HMC on condition of providing the Academy with a written consent of a legal guardian to participate in the classes along with the application form.

4.Classes within HMC will take place from July 7 to 12, 2024 at the G. and K. Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź.

5.Each participant is guaranteed five 45-minute individual lessons including work on repertoire as well as technical and workshop issues. All classes are conducted in an open form. Additionally, a daily group “horn warm-up” will take place. The course also includes work on orchestral studies excerpts, chamber music sessions, and work with an accompanist. The course will conclude with “mini” recitals and musical presentations.

5.1. Course schedule:

  • June 7, 2024, 5:00 PM, room 31 (Pałac street 32) – organizational meeting and group “horn warm-up” followed by a short recital by each participant
  • July 8-12, 2024, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, room 12 – group “horn warm-up”
  • July 8-12, 2024, 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM, room 12 and room 31 – individual and group classes with various instructors
  • July 12, 2024, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, room 12 – group “horn warm-up,” recital by all participants, and course closing.

 

6.Participants are responsible for providing sheet music for the accompanying pianist themselves.

7.Participants agree to free photographic, phonographic, or audiovisual recording of classes/concerts with their participation during HMC for promotional or archival purposes of the Academy and the Foundation. Participants also consent to the publication of their images on social media.

8.Each participant will receive a certificate of participation in HMC.

9.The deadline for participation in the courses is July 5, 2024 (the date of receipt at info@mikulski.me is decisive). A completed application form must be sent via email to info@mikulski.me with the subject line: HMC-HORN. The form must be accompanied by proof of payment of the registration fee for the chosen course.

10The registration fee for active and passive participants is:

A. for active participants – 1000 PLN,
B. for passive participants – 400 PLN.

11. The registration fee must be paid to the Akademia Muzyczna w Łodzi account:

  • a) The amount paid into the account for participation must be exactly the same as stated in the regulations.
  • b) The registration fee covers only the cost of course participation.
  • c) Participants are responsible for all costs associated with bank transfers.
  • d) The Academy and the Foundation do not cover the costs of transportation, accommodation, or meals for participants.
  • e) The Academy and the Foundation do not assist in organizing transportation, accommodation, or meals for participants.

12. Sending a completed and signed form by the participant, and in the case of minors, signed by a legal guardian, signifies acceptance of these regulations.

13. In case of a participant canceling their participation, the registration fee will not be refunded.

14.The number of active participants is limited. Qualification as an active participant is determined by the order of applications.
