Prof, Peter Arnold

Prof. Peter Arnold, born in Trier in 1952, studied with his father Karl Arnold (pricipal horn player in the SWF Symphony Orchestra) in  Baden – Baden and Heidelberg.During this time he was the winner of several music competitions (Chamber Music Prize of the City of Colmar, Mannheim University Competition, etc.)In 1974 Peter Arnold became principal horn player in the Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Essen and at the same time he supplemented his studies with Prof. Hermann Baumann at the Folkwang  Musikhochschule.From 1976 to 2006 Peter Arnold was principal horn player in the SWR Rundfunkorchester Kaiserslautern, from 2007 to 2011 he held the same position in the Deutsche Radiophilharmonie.Arnold now focuses on pedagogical projects, chamber music and solo tasks, and work as a conductor.

A large number of CD, radio and record recordings underline his musical activities.As a soloist he has made guest appearances with renowned orchestras in Germany, France, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Spain, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Italy, Israel, the USA, Japan and the former USSR (Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Russia), including a concert in the famous Moscow Tchaikovsky Hall.Concert tours as a chamber musician (e.g. Mithras Octet, Palatina Horn Wind, Württemberg Chamber Orchestra etc.) have taken him through Europe, Asia, South Africa and South America.Arnold’s repertoire includes the usual concert and chamber music literature through to special requirements for the French horn.

Composers such as Aldo Rafael Forte, Wolfgang Hofmann, Rolf Schweizer, Wal Berg and Klaus Arp dedicated new works for his instrument to him.In 1981 Peter Arnold received an appointment as a lecturer in horn at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts. Many of his former students play in the world’s leading orchestras. Invitations to give courses in Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, Korea, the USA and the USSR followed.Since 1998 he has been the artistic director of the “Internationale Glottertäler Horntage” and the “Black Forest Horn Days”In 1999, Peter Arnold was elected by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg awarded the title “Professor”.

In 2016 Arnold was elected President of the Palatinate Music Society.Conducting  studies with Claudio Santoro and Ernest Bour.Conducting activities as director of studies at the Mannheim University of Music, with the State Youth Orchestras of Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg, Palatina and Mannheimer Wind, with the State Wind Orchestra of Baden-Württemberg, the Parish Orchestra of Kirrberg, the Harmonie Otterberg, the SO Kaiserslautern, the Stamitzorchester Mannheim, the Speyer Chamber Orchestra, the MV Hauenstein, the Chamber Orchestra of the Black Forest Horndays  and as a soloist and conductor in various chamber music projects(e.g. Orchestre de Chambre JF Palliard,  Südwestdeutsche Rundfunksolisten u.a.)
