Marc Geujon

Marc Geujon’s journey to becoming one of the leading figures in classical trumpet is a testament to dedication and talent. Beginning his studies at the music school of Gonnehem under Gilbert Breuvart, he continued his development at the École Nationale de Musique of Arras with Philippe Vaucoret, and further honed his skills at the conservatory of Rueil-Malmaison under Éric Aubier. His dedication culminated in receiving the First Prize from the Paris Conservatory.

Geujon’s orchestral career is equally impressive, having held prominent positions as solo trumpet with the French Republican Guard Band, the Opéra national du Rhin in Mulhouse, the Orchestre de Picardie, and the Paris Chamber Orchestra. Currently, he holds the esteemed position of “Super Soliste,” principal trumpet, of the Orchestre de l’Opéra national de Paris. He has performed under the baton of renowned conductors including Herbert Blomstedt, Semyon Bychkov, Myung-whun Chung, Gustavo Dudamel, Armin Jordan, Philippe Jordan, Kurt Masur, Georges Prêtre, Daniele Gatti, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Valery Gergiev.

Beyond his orchestral commitments, Geujon is a passionate educator. He has imparted his knowledge at the conservatories of Rueil-Malmaison and Saint-Maur-des-Fossés and currently serves as a professor of trumpet at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP). As a chamber musician, he is a valued member of the Paris Opera Brass Quintet. Geujon’s solo career extends across Europe, Asia, and the United States.

His expertise is also recognized in the realm of instrument development, as he collaborates closely with the Chicago-based instrument maker Schilke, contributing to the Soloiste Series trumpets, including models SC4-MG and SB4-MG. In 2024, he was appointed International Visiting Professor of Trumpet at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester (UK).

Geujon’s discography showcases his versatility, featuring live recordings of trumpet concertos by Joseph Haydn and Johann Nepomuk Hummel with Paul Kuentz’s orchestra, as well as performances of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s four horn concertos on the corno da caccia. His albums “Classical Concertos” and “Proclamation” with the Mulhouse national orchestra have garnered significant recording awards.

As the legendary Maurice André once said, “The trumpet is an instrument of truth; it allows no deception.” Marc Geujon embodies this sentiment, delivering performances marked by technical mastery and musical integrity. His contributions as a performer, educator, and instrument developer have solidified his place as a leading figure in the world of classical trumpet.
