Joanna Kowalewska

Joanna Kowalewska was born in 1979 in Blachownia / Poland. She is a pianist and a chamber musician with over 20 years of experience mainly in chamber music. She is also a valuable music teacher.

She started her musical education in Czestochowa, where she received three times the Artistic Scholarship of the Mayor of Czestochowa (1999, 1995, 1993). She graduated from Grazyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz University of Music in Lodz with master’s degree in 2003. She studied in the piano-class of Prof. Anna Wesolowska-Firlej and in the chamber-musi- class of Krystyna Hussar-Moczulska and Edward Przylecki. She broadened her education by participating in master classes conducted by Lee Kum Sing, Monika Sikorska-Wojtacha, Bronislawa Kawalla and Janusz Olejniczak.

As a chamber musician, she won awards for an outstanding accompanist during many competitions and auditions, e.g. at Edwin Golnik National French Horn Competition in Lodz (2018, 2015, 2009) and the 8th Clarinet Festival in Piotrkow Trybunalski (2009), as well as in the 5th Regional Competition (in brass instruments category) for students of primary and secondary music schools (2013).

Since 2016, she has also been a permanent accompanist during the International Summer Master Course for Wind Instruments in Lodz, and in 2018 she established cooperation with the World Brass Association.

In the programs of her concerts you can often hear the music of the 20th century. She has premiered works by contemporary composers, for example at the International Festival of Contemporary Music Warsaw Autumn and during the Musica Moderna Festival in Lodz. 

She has performed with many artists, such as: William VerMeulen, Otto Sauter, Dariusz Mikulski, Armin Bachman, Pacho Flores, Thomas Jöstlein, Maciej Baranowski, Joanna Garwacka, Zdzislaw Stolarczyk, Beata Zawadzka-Klos, Piotr Sutt, Urszula Bereznicka-Pniak, Monika Kolasa -Hladikova.
