Iwona Glinka

A virtuoso, a visionary, and one of the most important ambassadors of contemporary flute music worldwide. Winner of the IMKA International Music Competition (Canada) and the Rome Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition (Salzburg), she captivates audiences with her expressive depth, technical mastery, and passion for exploring new sonic territories.

Born in Kwidzyn, she graduated with highest distinction from the State School of Music in Gdańsk at the age of 18, and later from the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music. She holds two doctoral degrees: in contemporary flute performance (Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków, dissertation on the flute works of Brian Ferneyhough) and in musicology (University of Athens, dissertation on contemporary flute works by Greek composers).

Since 1995 she has lived in Greece, developing a distinguished career as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer – notably as principal flutist of the Athens Symphony Orchestra and member of the renowned Hellenic Contemporary Music Ensemble founded by Theodore Antoniou.

She is the founder and artistic director of the Phasma-Music Ensemble, and co-founder of the ΔIAVLOΣ Duo with flutist Ewelina Zawiślak. She has premiered over 100 world premieres by composers from Europe, the Americas, Australia, and Asia – many of which were dedicated to her.

Iwona Glinka has recorded dozens of albums for major European and American labels (including Universal, BMG, Centaur Records, and Phasma Music). Her recordings have received numerous international accolades:
