Ewelina Zawiślak

She graduated with honours from the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź in the class of Prof. Antoni Wierzbiński in 2004. In 2003 – 2004, she studied in Franz Doppler Institute in Budapest under supervision of Prof. János Bálint. Since 2002, she has been working as a flutist in the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra in Łódź and since 2004 – at the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź. In 2013, she was conferred on her Ph.D. degree at the Academy of Music in Łódź and in the same year she was employed on the position of an assistant professor (adiunkt) at her Alma Mater.

In 1995, she was granted the Musical Talent title during the Talents’ Week in Tarnów. As one of the best 2004 graduates, she was awarded a student scholarship by the Minister of National Education. In 2005, she was a finalist of the International Gaetano Zinetti Chamber Music Competition in Sanguinetto, Italy. In the same year, she became a semifinalist of the International Chamber Music Competition in Nichelino, Italy and in 2007 – a prizewinner of the International Chamber Music Competition in Horn, Austria. In 2010, she was granted the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Award for artistic and didactic achievements. In 2011, she was a laureate of the Łódź Voivodship Marshal’s Award in the field of culture. In 2013, she was awarded the Medal for Distinguished Service to Polish Culture by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and in 2014 – the Rector’s Award for her activity in favor of the Academy and involvement in work with students, artistic activity and students’ achievements at national and international auditions.

 In 2014, she was also granted the Bronze Cross of Merit by the President of Poland and in 2015 – individual, 1st-degree award of the Warsaw Art Education Centre Director for particular contribution to the development of art education in Poland as well as the Diploma of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for her commitment to pedagogical work. In 2016, she was 1st prizewinner in the duo category at the International Solo Flute Competition Il Flauto Ricercato in Łódź.  

She has participated in numerous master classes given by such renowned flutists as: János Bálint, Peter Lucas Graf, Patric Gallois, Robert Morris Aitken, Emmanuel Pahud, Benedek Cśalog, Carlo Jans, Carlos Bruneel, Jørn Eivind Schau, Craig Goodman and many others.

She has been giving concerts as a soloist and chamber musician since 1990 both in Poland and abroad (e.g. in Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Hungary, Germany, China). In 1995 – 1996, she cooperated with the Tarnów Chamber Orchestra. Since 2006, she has been a member of the trio – with Prof. János Bálint (flute) and Kinga Firlej-Kubica (piano). In 2008, she commenced her collaboration with the Polish Camerata Orchestra. She has participated in numerous radio and television recordings. 

Since 2005, she has been a jury member of the All-Poland Woodwind Instruments Auditions. As a lecturer, she has also been invited to run methodology workshops for flute teachers working in music schools in Poland and flute master classes. In 2015, she also initiated a couple cyclical projects: International Summer Master Classes Ventus Optimus (8th edition will be held in 2016) and International Solo Flute Competition Il Flauto Ricercato (6th edition in 2018).

She contributes to the development of flute literature through her publishing activity – by arranging and transcribing music for flute and piano. 

She has also noted numerous pedagogical achievements, the evidence of which are awards and honorary mentions granted to her pupils at national and international competitions.
