The HARMONIA Choral Association is one of the oldest choirs in Poland, active continuously since 1886. Rooted in the working-class traditions of Łódź, it initially operated in secret and was later legalized as the HARMONIA Singing Society, quickly gaining recognition in the musical community. For over 130 years, generations of Łódź families have sung in the ensemble, whose history is closely intertwined with that of the city and the region.
The choir has been honored with the Medal “For Merits to the City of Łódź” and the Silver Medal “Meritorious for Polish Culture Gloria Artis.” Its repertoire spans sacred and secular works from the Middle Ages to the present, with a special emphasis on Polish music—both patriotic and religious. HARMONIA performs regularly in Poland and abroad, winning numerous awards, and each year organizes dozens of artistic events, including the prestigious festival Łódź Choral Autumn in Memory of Professor Henryk Blacha.
The choir’s discography includes three albums: Musica Sacra, Ta nasza pieśń (“This is Our Song”), and the jubilee recording Jest taki dzień (“There Is Such a Day”) with Polish Christmas carols. The current conductor and artistic director is Kamil Gruszczyński, and the Association’s president is Małgorzata Ircha.
